All or Nothing: Take the Challenge

National All or Nothing Day

July 26th, 2020 is National All or Nothing Day.

I am used to celebrating national ice cream day or national taco day, but I had never heard of National All or Nothing Day until I was looking up all the fun holidays for this year.

For the past 3 months I have been involved in something that has required me to make a commitment for the full month. For May and June, I was doing the Insanity workout program. For July I am giving up all sweets, completing a 4-week workout challenge, and participating in a blog consistency challenge.

I am not going to lie, each of these challenges has pushed me to my absolute max. I can’t even count the number of times I have wanted to give up on each challenge. I am seriously proud of myself for staying the course, because I have never reached this level of consistency.

Does anyone ever start something and consciously plan to fail or only give it 65%? I am sure that is not common. I mean why even waste the time doing something if it is not worth 100% of your effort? Sounds crazy to me! I would rather be sitting beach side with my sand in the toes giving 0% on purpose rather than knowingly giving 65% to something I know I will eventually quit.

Risking it All

When I think about what all or nothing, I can’t help but think about all the times I gave less than 100% of my effort and didn’t accomplish what I set out to achieve. As a Enneagram Type 3 I am highly ambitious, but I am also a Type 6. As a result, my own anxieties and difficulties making tough decisions has gotten in the way in the past. In other words, I let these barriers get in the way of me giving my all.

National All or nothing day is supposed to be a day we commit to risking it all. The folks at National Day Calendar suggest we celebrate the day by “(making) a decision. Take a step. While you’re at it, let family and friends know about your determination to make some changes. Let ’em know on social media posting #NationalAllOrNothingDay to get them involved too.

I urge you to accept this challenge. Figure out what your next short-term goal is and commit to making it happen, starting with taking the first step on July 26th. Look up “SMART” or “SMARTER” goals and start writing your goals down according to the guidance of these acronyms. You can then break your goals down into small tasks and get to action.

I am really liking the idea of having a monthly challenge. It has given me something to look forward to each month, like the fact that I cannot wait to devour a donut or cupcake on August 1st!

Just Do it

I am sure you can think of a goal or something you want to get done within the next month. It may be something you want to change, something you want to start, something you want to stop, an amount of money you want to make, a relationship you want to improve, etc. Whatever it is, make the commitment to yourself that you are going to go at it full force for 1 whole month and give it your all.

The one promise I can make to you is that after one month of giving your all, you will absolutely see a difference in your mind set. If you are like me, you will begin to be brave in other areas of your life, almost like a challenge to see “what can I do next”. It becomes a very productive addiction of sorts.

Don’t let anything hold you back. Say no to anxiety. Say no to fear. Say no to negativity. Listen to me, the former “shrink back” queen: It will be worth it! All or nothing, friend!
