It's Just Tuesday?!

I recently posted a graphic that stated, “always believe something amazing is about to happen”. This is something I truly believe in. It is so important to always have something to look forward to. The pictures you see above are from my AMAZING girls trip to Porto! This trip was everything I needed and then some. Porto quickly became a city I now adore and the food easily grabbed a top spot on my list of food favorites! I booked my flight for this trip about a month out. And let me tell you, I anticipated this mess out of this trip! I. Could. Not. Wait. I just knew it would be amazing! And it was. Check out a few more photos from our trip!

Oh, but of course there is more to this story! The week before my coveted girls trip was pretty much hell. My kids irritated me to the core. They fought like never before. They whined like never before. Makenzie was sick for part of the week. Brayden was an angry teething toddler. I was on the verge of getting sick and went ham on every homeopathic remedy I could. I couldn’t go to the gym, because of the kids. I lost control of my temper. My patience was nonexistent. You name it; it happened. It was a crazy week.

It started to get bad on that Monday afternoon and by Tuesday I was in shock at how crazy my week had been, only to realize it was just Tuesday! I wish I could say things got better as the week went on, but the shenanigans remained pretty steady and my patience was thin. I just needed to get on this trip.

On Thursday, I went to my weekly women’s Bible study (with some of the same ladies who were on the trip). The leader for that day just so happened to bring up a scripture in James that spoke directly to me. James 4:13-15, Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

This scripture got me all the way together! While it is good to make plans, I should not be “boasting” about those plans and furthermore, I need to remember to seize the days leading up to and following whatever I am excited about, because life is short. Man, that was a hard lesson. During the week before my trip I had both kids home (Makenzie is normally at Kindi) and I was able to spend lots of quality time with them both, especially on the days they were sick or teething badly. They wanted to be with me and all I wanted to do was get to Porto. I have already beat myself up for not having a better attitude during that week, but more importantly I am basking in the grace that was extended to me from both my kids and God. Thankfully, my kids are so young, they likely have no memory of the not-so-nice person I was that week. My husband reminded me that moments of being out of character are fleeting, but consistent patterns of questionable behavior have a lasting impact for everyone involved. I am thankful I was able to self-reflect and grasp the lesson in all of this.

Are you seizing and appreciating every single day you are given? Or are you too focused on the future? Yes, there is such a thing. Planning for the future and having things to look forward to is great. However, we miss out on opportunities to love and make amazing memories if we just skip over the “now”. I think that is whey they say live each day like it’s your last! So, always believe something amazing is about to happen...just don't forget to include today!
