My Perfect Life

For almost two years my family and I have been living it up in Germany. We have been exploring non-stop, eating amazing food, traveling almost once a month, hanging with friends, and going to every fest we can make it to! Life has been beyond Great!

By now, I am sure you are asking yourself, why would I make a post seemingly bragging about my life and how great it is? I am glad you asked!

Is my life great? Absolutely! However, I must be honest and tell you that my life, just as with anyone else, is not without struggles, irritations, mistakes, etc. I have seen people complaining about how people post to social media and make it seem like their life is so grand. I actually think the complaining should be the other way around. We should be complaining about those people. Why would anyone be so naïve to believe that anyone’s life is only what you see on social media? I have heard it said that Facebook is essentially a highlight reel. We typically post the good stuff, while we deal with the not-so-good stuff behind the scenes. This couldn’t be truer.

Let me just tell you. While I do feel I have an amazing life, I felt that way before we even moved to Germany; and even through some tough times. Living here has only added to our already-amazing life. The struggle is still real though! We have a very “normal” life here and it is not as glamorous as people might assume. Currently, my son is 1 and my daughter is almost 3. No matter where we are in the world, I still must deal with the issues that accompany toddlers. My life still revolves around schedules I keep for my kids, so we all get the best sleep possible. I still have to deal with the frustrations of getting my daughter to eat her dinner or trying to calm my teething son. On these awesome trips, I still deal with my potty-training daughter who recently had a poop accident and I had to strip her down and clean her up in the middle of a public park. Speaking of trips, I have to spend countless hours planning for each; that is stressful in and of itself. We don’t just hop on a plane and go, as some may assume. Also, while on the topic of trips, my husband and I seem to only “argue” while on a trip (I’ll take help if anyone can assist me in figuring that out LOL). I have even shed tears on many trips just from the frustrations of traveling with kids. We still have to deal with our rental properties back in the states and hope we can keep them rented out. We have family and friends we haven’t seen in over 2 years. We have had to deal with the deaths and sicknesses of family members, while being away. We have no idea if/when/where we are moving next year. I could go on, but I think you get the point. Life is still going on over here in Germany.

One, lesson I am continuing to learn is that you cannot compare your life with others. We think we know people based on what we see on Facebook or IG. We see photos of people and build up this idea in our head of how great their life must be. In reality, we only know their social networking persona. I see many people put the hashtag #goals under a photo of someone else’s life. The issue with this is you never know what is going on behind the scenes in other people’s lives. They could be fighting a crazy battle that would wipe you out, but you would never know. This is why it is important to live your own life and be happy within yourself. We also can’t live a life based on “I’ll be happy when…” thinking. If this is the case, we will never be truly happy or that happiness it will be short-lived.

Moving to Europe didn’t solve all my problems. I don’t get to live a supernatural life over here. Some people might really think life living abroad is all pink clouds and purple butterflies. I am here to tell you that life here is quite parallel to life back in the States, we just get to travel and experience more of the God’s earth through the madness.

While I will continue to post the highlights of my life and amazing landscapes of different places we visit, just remember that real life is happening for all of us offline. I still stand by the fact that my life is perfect, in the sense that we are living out the life God intended us to live. I hope you continue to enjoy and bask in the perfection of your life!
