Salmon and Spinach Pizza

You asked for it...Well, here it is! I know it looked delicious and I can assure you it is as delicious as it looks. Living here in Germany, I have access to some unique products that may not be found in American grocery stores. I do my best to give comparable product suggestions to make your experience with this pizza as great as mine was!

For the crust, which is the best part in my opinion, I use a German brand of a puff pastry crust. This flaky goodness crisps up just perfectly for this pizza. If you do not have access to this, I would highly recommend a croissant roll-out dough or any other thin and crispy pizza crust. Here in Europe, a flammkuchen dough would also work. I am from Ohio and I am a Donatos girl, if that helps to give you some perspective :)

For the sauce, a staple of mine, is to only put sauce on top of the pizza, rather than under the cheese. I do this with every pizza I make. For this salmon pizza I used a delicious cream cheese-like sauce that contained herbs and smoked ham!

In the states, a flavored Philadelphia cream cheese would work just fine. I would highly suggest one of these flavors pictured.

For the salmon, I used a pre-cooked hot-smoked salmon filet. You can always substitute this with a filet that you cook on your own or even a package of smoked salmon.

Now that you have the low-down on the three most important ingredients, you are well on your way to a great pizza!!

The Recipe:

1 pizza crust

1 salmon filet

Fresh spinach (as much as you like)

Your choice of cream-cheese like sauce (at room temp;softened)

Shredded Mozzarella cheese

Shredded Gouda cheese (or whatever you like)

Sliced red onions (as much as you like)

Crushed black pepper

Sea salt

Dried parsley flakes

Put It All Together:

Preheat the oven according to instructions on your pizza crust.

Roll out the pizza crust and rub with a little olive oil. Spread both types of cheese over the dough. Add a layer of spinach. Add the red onions. Break the salmon filet up all over the pizza. Sprinkle a little salt, black pepper, and parsley over the pizza.

Bake the pizza according to the instructions on your pizza crust or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

For the sauce: Once the pizza has finished baking, spoon some sauce into a sandwich bag. Cut a small piece from the corner of the bag and drizzle a little or a lot over the entire pizza. Enjoy!
