16 Bible Verses to Encourage You

Quarantine-life, Social distancing, kids running around, working from home with all the distractions, being home every day, too many zoom calls, and all things COVID has left many of us drained, stressed, or at our wits end.

I am thankful for the support of family and friends that keep me encouraged. I am also thankful for all the encouragement I get from God’s word. I am often guilty of not turning to the word to get what I need. When I do, however, I am never let down! Here are 16 reminders and Scriptures to help you encourage you and help you get through tough times.

1. Remember God cares:

Psalm 8:3-4

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

2. You don’t need to fear:

Isaiah 41:13

13 For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

3. God is still at work:

Habakkuk 1:5

5 “Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.

Philippians 1:6

6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

4. Do not worry:

Matthew 6:34

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

5. Stay Patient:

Proverbs 14:29

29 Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.

6. God can give you peace:

2 Thesselonians 3:16

16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.

John 14:27

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

7. God still loves You:

Romans 8:35-37

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

8. Trust God:

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

9. Call to God for answers:

Jeremiah 33:3

3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

10. God can give you rest:

Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

11. Never stop praying:

Colossians 4:2

2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

12. Change your thoughts:

Philippians 4:8

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

13. Everything will be ok!:

Romans 8:28-30

28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

14. God will provide:

Philippians 4:19

19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

15. Control your mouth! (for those of us who have a few words for people during this time)

Proverbs 16:24

24 Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.

Proverbs 14:29

29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear…. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

16. God is your ultimate protection:

Psalm 91

My Refuge and My Fortress

91 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say[a] to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge[b]— 10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. 12 On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.

14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. 15 When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
